My year as Miss La Mesa has truly been one of the best experiences of my life. When I think back on this last year, my head is filled with all of the smiles of the little kids we have interacted with and what a difference we have made helping out in our community. It is so amazing to meet so many wonderful people in our city and to be able to brighten their day, even if all we gave them was a smile. To my Sister Queens, Kelli, Liz, Bri, Shannon, and Leona: I could not have asked for a better group of girls to spend my year with. I have been blessed to learn all about your lives and support you in all of your endeavors this past year. I am glad we were together for all of our fun events, even through the long hours, late nights, or early mornings when we thought our toes might fall off from standing in heels for so long or when we were so hot, cold, or cranky because we hadn’t eaten in hours. This year with you all has been a blast and I wouldn’t trade it for the world. I cannot wait to see what you all go on to do in your lives and for our friendships to grow even more throughout the years to come. To my Teeny: Kelli you have been the best thing that came into my life this year. When my name was announced as Miss La Mesa 2014 the first thing I thought was that I couldn’t wait to meet you! We have gotten so close this year and I have enjoyed watching you grow. From your 16th birthday, getting your license, becoming an upper classman in high school, and hearing what colleges you want to apply to, I hope I have impacted your life as much as you have impacted mine. You are so incredibly smart and grounded in your beliefs and I cannot wait to see what the future holds for you. And no matter how old we get, you will always be my Teeny! To all the girls in the Princess Program: You all are some of the brightest, kindest, bravest girls I have ever met! You all shine in your own ways and know you all are amazing just the way you are. No matter what you go through in your growing up years, keep being the kind souls that you are and do not let anyone change you. To my directors, Sierra, Robin, and Maria: Thank you all for everything you have done for us this year. I admire everything you guys have done to improve this program and to make our year better. No matter how busy you all were, you wouldn’t hesitate to drop what you were doing to help one of your titleholders out, and I can’t thank you enough. Also, thank you to Alex Kuty and Pam Wilson for always pushing me to do my best and encouraging me to keep pursuing my love for pageants, even if that means not always taking home the crown. Sierra, it’s funny to think the first time I met you was when we were competing against each other at Miss Greater San Diego in 2012, and now you are my director! Thank you for being my mentor and coaching me for Greater this past year, and for always believing in me. I hope you will be right there with me as I prepare for Miss California USA next year. To my family, Mom, Dad, and Billy: Thank you guys for supporting me even when you all live hours away from me. You all mean the world to me and it makes me feel great that you support my passion for pageants no matter what. To the city of La Mesa: Thank you for letting me represent this beautiful city as Miss La Mesa this year. I can honestly say this is one of the best cities in California and I am blessed to be a part of it. This year has changed my life by seeing all of the kind and unique individuals that make up this wonderful city. Lastly, to my successor: I hope you get as much out of your year as Miss La Mesa as I did. Your heart will never be as full as when a little girl at an event looks up at you with the most adoring eyes and tells you she wants to be like you. Never take this opportunity for granted and go to as many events as you can. You might be exhausted by the end of the week, but I promise you it is all worth it. This will be a chapter in my life I will look back on and cherish forever. Thank you to every person that has supported me that I have met along the way. I am forever grateful and blessed to have been Miss La Mesa 2014.

Love Always,

Mandy Bakker
