Farewell from Miss San Diego Cities

When I was crowned Miss San Diego Cities a year ago, I never expected the year to turn out the way it did. I have felt so honored to be a part of an organization within a community that has been represented by so many incredible women before me.

This year, I have had a multitude of opportunities to volunteer in my hometown of San Diego. Thanks to our awesome directors, Sierra, Maria, and Robin, we participated in countless events, including parades, supporting nearby local pageants, World Down Syndrome Day, a high school Airbands competition, charity auctions, and prepared for the Miss California USA pageant. We could not have asked for a better group of women to spend the year with, and we’re definitely coming around for more backyard picnics at Miss Robin’s house!

Everything I did as Miss San Diego Cities was an incredible experience. None of it, however, would have been half as great if I had to do it alone. This year, I got to spend my time with a girl who I knew I would adore from the moment I met her. Leona, you have definitely made every event a memorable experience. You are gorgeous inside and out, and I am so proud that I got to watch you grow from a girl finishing up her high school career to a college student about to start her sophomore year! Preparing for Miss California with you was unreal, and you truly represented San Diego as a classy, strong, goal-driven woman. You are always inspiring me!

On that note, I also have to thank my Dad for being our chauffer in North Park and El Cajon and Lakeside and everywhere in between when we needed a hot red mustang to show off in a parade. I love that you were so excited for your first parade, and that you stuck around to do it again and again in spite of all the waiting around and listening to Leona and I girl talk.

As I pass on my crown, I am so excited to see the new titleholders start their reigns as Miss and Miss Teen San Diego Cities. Welcome to the 4 Points Family! It is weird to think that my pageant career is over, but I am glad I got to spend my last year with such loving, inspiring women. I appreciate you all more than you know!

With Love,
Shannon Monaghan
