WOW! I can’t believe it’s already been a year since I was crowned as Miss La Mesa 2015. This past year has been such a thrill and I couldn’t have been more honored to have the opportunity to serve my city. My participation in this pageant stems from a banner on Lake Murray Blvd. that I used to pass daily on my way home from high school. Having never done a pageant before, but always curious about them, I decided to register and compete for Miss Teen La Mesa 2007. Although I didn’t walk away with the crown, or a placement, I did leave with a lasting impression.
After watching most of my former fellow competitors going on to eventually win the crown (including Sierra Billock and Maria Maes), I knew it was something I had to try for when I permanently moved back to San Diego.
When I finally returned back home in 2014, I knew it was my time and registered for the upcoming pageant. The second time happened to be the charm. Winning this pageant was even better than I could have imagined. I loved connecting with members of my com- munity, meeting and forming friendships with beautiful, ambitious women and having the chance to raise money for various non-profits. Kaitilyn and I became a fundraising machine at events, even raising so much as $3,000 in raffle tickets at the Sharp Hospital Gala. It is events such as this that make this experience more than just a sash and a crown, but an opportunity to make a difference.
I am extremely grateful that I was chosen to serve my community and truly could not have
imagined my first year back in San Diego without pageants. Thank you Sierra Billock and 4 Points Events for your support throughout the year and in my venture to become Miss California USA. That experience was unforgettable and I wouldn’t have pursued it on my own. Thank you to Mary England and the La Mesa Chamber of Commerce for taking us in with open arms and always being so fun to work with during the countless mixers and rib- bon cuttings. I loved serving the Chamber and knowing that no matter what I was showing up to countless smiling faces. Thank you to my family for supporting me throughout this entire venture. You believed and supported me in my every step of the way and I am truly grateful for the commitment you had in helping me to achieve my goals.
Thank you to my fun and talented “pageant sister” Jinette. You were always the honest comedic relief I needed whether I was picking out outfits, practicing interview questions or riding in parades.
To my teen Kaitilyn, I loved getting to know you throughout the past year. You are wise beyond your years and I cannot wait to watch you grow into the wonderful accomplished woman I know you will become.
To Miss La Mesa 2016, I’m so excited for you to experience this unforgettable year! Go to every event with a smile and a willingness to serve, as you truly are this cities “Jewel of the Hills!” I look forward to my next adventure and am forever indebted to the difference this organization has made in my life and to the woman I have become.
Thank you all from the bottom of my heart.
